Growth and Poverty Reduction in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh: A Comparative Study
This study, sponsored by the International Labour Organisation, examines the relative roles of growth, special programmes of direct employment creation and income transfer programmes, on the reduction of poverty in a comparative perspective, in the light of the experience of Andhra Pradesh and Bihar in the post-reform era. It looked at not just the rate of growth but also the composition of growth in order to assess the impact on poverty. The study was mainly based on secondary data supplemented, in the case of Bihar, with primary data from a 12-village household survey.
