Assignment: Third Party Evaluation
Summary: The evaluation assessed the complexes’ role in maintaining an open defecation-free status, particularly in slum areas with inadequate individual toilets. Data was collected from 4900 users, 230 caretakers, and 10 supervisors through field visits, interviews, and observations. Findings highlighted issues with cleanliness, safety, and staff behavior. Recommendations include daily cleaning by safai karamcharis, user education on hygiene, provision of portable toilets where needed, enhanced safety measures for women and children, regular rotation of caretakers, free sanitary napkins with proper disposal facilities, and improved grievance mechanisms through a dedicated helpline and WhatsApp number for user feedback and repairs.
